    Hi,

I want to mention a few things that I wish we get with the next update.

    Better pencil settings

    Scale option for Shift&Trace

    Lock options for layers

    and

I like to have the ability to see frame numbers when I move frames. I can only see it when I drop the frames. I like to see which frame I am in before I do that.

    ย

    Thanks

Hi Bahadir! Look! Your message turned up! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just really weird that it took about a week. ๐Ÿ™ I am so much looking forward to going live with our new (and much better) website, that I have been working on for some time now.

Thanks for your good suggestions! All have been noted.

The frame number thing I completely get. I sort of consider this a bug – so it is being worked on as we speak, and should be fixed for our next release.

The scale option for Shift And Trace, we already have on our todo list. However, it is not planned for the next release, since we have plenty of more urgent issuers right now ๐Ÿ˜‰

The two last suggestions, I need a bit more information to understand exactly what you mean. Can you elaborate a little on what would make the pencil settings better for you? And what exactly is it you would lock on layers? Changing timing? Drawing on it? Something else?

Thanks a lot for all your support for our project!

    Best,
    Niels

When you have many layers, it’s getting confusing. Visibility doesn’t help; I can adjust the layer accidentally even if its visibility is off. (Believe me, that mistake could make me cry! ๐Ÿ™‚ย  I like to lock or hide layers.

Well, I can live with Pencil settings.

It would be nice to add something that shows which of those three pencils is active, which pencil I’m using.

    Thanks

    Hi,

So many layers are frustrating to me as well. If possible, to be able to “create folder option for layers” with the “locking” feature you just mentioned above would be great!

I truly appreciate your input! Very helpful, both of you Bahadir and Ridvan! Thank you!

I think I get it now. If you set a layer to invisible, then you cannot accidentally draw on it. But that is not what you mean. You are talking about adjusting a layers timing in the X-Sheet – which you can do by accident also if it is set to invisible. I see. Interesting.

So “locking” a layer would mean, it is not editable, right? Meaning you can not add or delete any drawings (or clones) in it. Just having a little lock icon/button on it, like we already have on the audio track, could be one way to do it.

Of course we would need to work out what should happen if the layer is also linked. I guess the lock would have priority over the linking, so nothing could be changed on a locked layer, even if its linked layer is changing.

    What do you think?

    Thanks a lot,
    Niels

I really like AP and all the amazing work that is being done. We are glad that you take every comment seriously and consider them thoughtfully, as this shows a commitment to continuous improvement and excellence.

    – โ€œlockingโ€ a layer mean, it is not editable and also I can’t draw on it!(I might want to see it on the scene). It feels more safe/comfortable, believe me, when you have 10 layers on the x-sheet.

If the layers are linked, then a warning might appear on the screen or in a popup window that says there is another layer linked to that layer. Do you want to unlock it?

    Thanks

    Bahadir

Thank you Bahadir. Sounds like the way forward. I will see if we can make this already for the beta, which is our next release.

I am so happy for people like you and Ridvan and everybody who have such good feedback for me. I am truly grateful and excited – because this is exactly how we can keep making Animation Paper better. Thank you!!

Earlier, you talked about the missing ability to see the frame number when you slide/move drawings. I totally agree with you. Here’s what we have done so far – this will be part of the beta:

    FrameNumberUpdateRecording.mp4

    Thanks,

    Hi Niels,

Thank you and I’d like mention that I am excited while I am using your software as well. Especially to this smart UI with focusing on real animators needs. ย I was just able to do a walk cycle immediately without worrying about the panels and tools.

By the way, it’s also so useful where you placed light table indicator ( and love the small leds on the timeline). While it’s on I immediately been noticed it (likewise the mirrror.) . Addition to that my hand goes on to click it to “turn light table off” ย when I am done with using it. I am not sure to “turn on” there would be a icon needed there ( for the sake of usability and simplicity, I am sure you already better thought of that) but clicking it to just turn off might be useful I think.

Thanks again and all the best!

Thanks Ridvan. Yeah, I have been debating exactly that in my head for a long time ๐Ÿ˜€ I guess it wouldn’t hurt to let the user turn the thing off by clicking the indicator. I’ll think about it some more ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for mentioning it!!
