AnimCutOut
Quote from Rulomileg on June 7, 2025, 4:38 amHello, what is the way to cut an entire animation and place it in another position within the canvas? I think the previous PaP was called AnimCutOut and and it was a very useful tool.

Quote from Niels on June 7, 2025, 9:49 amHi Rulomileg! In my eagerness to keep everything simple while doing the early designing of Animation Paper I decided to just drop what we called AnimCutOut in PAP. So you can't do it actually. I must admit since then I miss it. 🙂
My plan is to create a more up to date feature, so layers can be moved nondestructively using keyframed moves. It would for many uses be a much better way forward - however, I am aware that some uses would work better if you could just pick up an area (holding multiple frames) and stamp it down elsewhere - like in PAP.
What are your thoughts on this matter? Your input is interesting to me. As you know, I want to listen and create what works best for the situations animators like you would find themselves in.
Thanks,
Niels

Quote from manimation on June 7, 2025, 11:33 amAs soon as I read this my first thoughts were related to effects animation, ie explosions, rain drops and splashes etc.
Animating each individually would result in natural looking results but could prove extremely labour intensive, duplicating them would greatly reduce the work/time involved especially with the ability to resize/flip them to depth and some variation. Of course reusing one cutout repeatedly could spoil the effect but a few variations randomly placed would work while still reducing the effort. Being able to copy them to different scenes as well would further increase the usefulness such stamping methods.

Quote from Rulomileg on June 8, 2025, 1:18 amHi Niels, thanks for your clarification.
Everything is alright. I just think that tool helped a lot to shorten realization times.
Especially on walks that cross the screen.
But I understand that this was how it was done in the first days of the animation. Without cheating haha.
Thank you!
