Using the Beta Version so far and questions about Animation Paper

Page 1 of 2Next

Hi congrats on the beta release and progress. I have tested some of the alpha versions before and have noticed improvement in the beta. Based on using the beta so far, I noticed that sometimes the audio playback and scrubbing can be off sync . In addition, when looped, sometimes the audio repeats during playback without finishing all the way through.

Specs:

Windows 11 Home

x64 bit

HP ENVY x360 Laptop

  1. When it comes to audio scrubbing, will it be possible to scrub through the X sheet as well as the play head?

2. Will it be possible to import/extract audio from video clips? For example, software like Pencil 2D and Callipeg have these features.

3. Also, will the importing movie clip feature be included in the final release 5.0 or will that be in another update?

Thank you for your time.

Hi G,

Thanks for reporting this. It is a known issue - that is literally the next thing on our todo for tomorrow. 🙂 Will be fixed for Beta2 no doubt.

  1. I'm not sure I understand what it is you want exactly. Do you mean, have the audio sounding when dragging the scroll bar of the x-sheet?
  2. This could of course be doable. So we would import the video part to the reference layer and have the audio in the audio column? Or do you mean, just using the audio part of the movie-file?
  3. Yes, importing video was supposed to be part of this Beta1, but we had to postpone it to Beta 2 or a possible 3.

Thanks,
Niels

You're welcome. 🙂

1. Yes correct, the audio sounds when scrolling through the x sheet.

2. Using the audio part from music file. However both options can be useful.

Thank you and you're welcome.

OK - cool! Thanks for clarifying. This is noted. I feel, however, that when scrolling it could be too much/weird to have the audio sound. I'll think about it though...

Did you know that if you hold down Shift (while over the drawing area) you can drag your pen up/down (or left/right) to scrub/scroll while the sound is playing as well? Maybe this helps to get a little bit closer to what you were hoping for?

Best,
Niels

Ok if you think that it shouldn't be included that way then that is fine. Whatever works best.

I may have forgotten about this feature so thank you for reminding me. I will try doing that. 🙂

Hi, when using the Beta 3 version of Animation Paper I noticed when drawing sometimes with the brush, pencil, and marker that little white lines appear within the stroke. I do not know if this issue has been addressed or if it is just the PC that I am using.

Specs:

Windows 11 Home

x64 bit

LENOVO LOQ 15 Laptop.

I also had questions about Animation Paper.

  1.  Can Animation Paper be used commercially and non commercially by individuals and businesses?
  2.  For Animation Paper, will there be volume licenses for two or more individuals to share and use Animation Paper on more than one device/PC and if so how much will it cost?
  3.  If there is not a volume license for two or more people, would each person need to purchase a separate license for the software to use commercially and non commercially?
  4. Are more than one person like family members, siblings, and business partners allowed to take turns or collaborate using Animation paper on the same device/s for commercial and non commercial use?
For example, if my sibling and I each have a license for Animation Paper, and wanted to collaborate together, can we both collaborate and take turns on the same animations/files on the same device or devices that we share for commercial and non commercial use, or do we have to work on separate devices and transfer files between each other?
  5. Will Animation Paper support family sharing for the iPad and for people who share an iPad and invest in the software, could the software be shared between them if they use the same device?
Thank you for your time.

Hi G,

Oh, wow! Thanks for recording the video - I have never seen that problem before. Those lines are of course not supposed to be there. I do think you're maybe the only one experiencing this, however, we will take a look at it and see if we can do something about it.

If we find a solution, I'll get in contact so you can test it for us. 🙂

To your questions:

  1. Yes.
  2. We already have done a system that handles one organisation, like a company or school, to purchase a number of seats, and then install and activate them all in one go. They will get discounts according to how many they take and if they are educational or not. But having such a license for only two people would probably not be worth it. One user is allowed to install AP on 2 computers. All this is not set in stone at this point in time, so this might be subject to change.
  3. We don't differentiate between commercial or non-commercial. We have one version - and that is the full version - for everybody.
  4. Yes, no problem. Both of you can work/use the same installation by taking turns. Entirely up to you how you want to use it.
  5. We do not yet have an iPad version, but we do plan to make AP for iPad (and Android). This touch screen version will be fully compatible with the desktop version, so you can share files/work between the two. We plan to support Apples family sharing policies.

I hope this answers your questions - let me know if you have any followup.

Thanks,
Niels

By the way, G, you said the white lines occur using beta 3. Have you tried beta 2? Did the same happen with beta 2?

Thanks,
Niels

Hi G,

The white lines that appear are probably linked to the computer calculating the maths for the line and then refreshing the display and will have no impact on the lines or image itself as they have already been calculated.  The lines themselves are a hybrid of bitmap and vector, so there will be a slight delay as it calculates the vectors but on your machines specs it's not a hardware issue.

Is anything else running in the background, such as a virus checker?

No matter how hard I tried I could not replicate the issue on my machine which is a long way short of your machines spec. and it's also using a Linux OS not Windows.

Hi Niels,

You're welcome and thank you so much and for answering the questions that I had.

To clarify for question number 3 , if my sibling and I wanted to purchase Animation Paper just for two (for both of us to use),

if one user can install Animation Paper on 2 computers, unless it changes, would purchasing one license that can be used on two devices be okay or would we need to purchase a separate license for each of us?

To clarify for question number 5 for the iPad version, for family members or siblings who share an iPad and want to use Animation Paper, will each person be able to use Animation Paper on the same iPad or device?

I tried the beta 2 version before but didn't notice it at the time. Is there a way that I can install the Beta 2 version? I do not have an old installer for it.

Thank you.
