I keep accidentally hiding the layer, and it’s really confusing when it happens ’cause the drawing disappears and I’m not sure why. And I try to draw, it won’t let me and there’s a cryptic cursor.

I guess in hindsight, now I know it was telling me the layer was hidden. Then I had to check. And I had to check how it happened and it turns out I’ve been pressing V from habit, which is harmless in most other programs. This wasn’t the first time it happened but this is the first time I figured it out. The last few times, I just closed the program thinking it was a bug.

I guess I’m excited to unbind that shortcut but I don’t know if this is an opportunity for better UI feedback when a layer is hidden. ’cause when I had the hunch, looked at the top of the X-sheet and it didn’t look wrong. I really had to question if I was in some kind of special mode (eg, Photoshop’s quick mask) or the layer was locked or what.

I understand. Yes, with any function and shortcut, there’s always the risk that hitting it by accident will make the software do something that is not clear to you.

But I guess, it will help, as you say, that keys you have a habit of hitting unintentionally can be disabled (when we get that functionality done).

By the way, I am happy you found out what happened after all. I hope it is a matter of getting used to – at least for now.
