About selections

Hi Niels!
Speaking of selecting and cutting, I have the following question:
Is it possible to make a selection or cut and save it for later use in another scene?

Quote from Niels on October 2, 2025, 7:53 amWell, not really. You can do the Shift Esc shortcut to get your latest cutout back. But that's only the latest one.
I would just "save" your cutout by stamping it in an empty drawing (maybe in a new layer) - so you can have the layer not visible, but have your saved cutouts there - to pick up and use later. Just a suggestion. 🙂
Whole drawings can be copied (Ctrl C) and pasted in another scene.
Best,
Niels

Quote from Rulomileg on October 3, 2025, 4:01 amYes, I have used the option to recover the last cut or selection, it is very useful. And cutting a part to stamp it on another layer is precisely what I have done so far, thanks for the suggestion. But to use it in another scene it doesn't work for me.
On the other hand, it's a shame, I think it's another of the old PaP tools that I also miss along with the possibility of cutting an animation section to place it in another part of the canvas, copy it or enlarge it. Luckily I haven't removed the old PaP yet haha
I still haven't been able to fully understand why you left out a tool as good as the old PaP's AnimCutOut. Doing it manually is like drawing on paper, which is wonderful but time-consuming.

Quote from Niels on October 3, 2025, 9:28 amCopying to another scene doesn't work? What I mean is copying a whole drawing (frame) and pasting it in another scene. I would believe that to be useful for you - even though it is not copying the cutout directly.
I am definitely planning to have an equivalent to AnimCutOut implemented in Animation Paper. I am thinking a way of picking up and stamping down multiple drawings in one go. Right now we are actually working on another feature, that could be used for similar reasons, which is a Transform layer tool. This will enable you to scale/rotate/move a layer nondestructively and keyframe the translation, so you can take, say, a walk cycle drawn in place - and move it across the screen. Or you can do pans and zooms, etc. This is coming in a future version, but we will already have a little bit of this Transform feature included in the very next release (beta 3) - enabling users to scale and position imported reference images. This is a much asked for feature and will in this first version not be animatable, but just enable simple positioning and scaling of the reference layer.

Quote from Rulomileg on October 5, 2025, 7:48 amWhat I meant was that it doesn't work for me to copy the entire drawing but only a part to place it in a different scene. But I understand what you mean. It could be useful indeed.
Regarding the equivalent of that old PaP tool, I think it's an excellent idea! I think that many current users who did not know the old PaP would be fascinated by such a useful tool.
Meanwhile, the new possibility of modifying the reference images is a great achievement!
Thanks Niels!
