draw beyond the frame
Quote from Niels on September 19, 2026, 4:46 pmHi Meteur,
Animation Paper allows (and saves) lines drawn outside the "paper" area. However any lines are normally hidden when they are beyond the frame.
But using the lasso can bring them back.
If you simply draw outside the frame (dark grey area) or if you lasso a drawing and move and stamp it outside, you will effectively have drawn beyond the frame. Those lines/drawings are not visible, but still there. You can move them back by lassoing the area and move them back into frame.
Also you can hit A (Menu: Pick Up > All (Whole Drawing)). This picks up everything in your drawing (including what's outside the frame) and temporarily makes it visible. Now you can move the whole drawing and stamp it - OR if you just wanted to check it, you can stamp it down in place without moving it (or simply Undo the pick up) if all you wanted was to see what was beyond the frame.
The reason for having lines and drawings go beyond the frame is to make it much easier when doing, for example, a character entering or leaving the frame. If you lasso the character and move it in or out the frame, you don't risk cutting it off at the edge of the frame. You keep the whole character intact and will be able to lasso and move or adjust it again without loosing any parts of it.
Thanks for asking! 🙂
