Keyframes and the transform tool
Quote from XaysX on April 25, 2026, 7:03 amHi!
I'm an art school student who's just graduating, and I've been using Animation Paper for a few weeks now for an entrance exam to my (hopefully) next school. I absolutely love it. It's been so easy to learn and I've enjoyed it way more than other apps that I've tried.
I know that the color wheel and stuff like that are coming in the next patch, but is there any possibility of a keyframe tool being added? I really enjoy using keyframes to speed up planning/storyboarding of an animation, and while I can manage without it, going into the future I would love to have something similiar. Another thing I noticed was that it's quite hard to keep the drawings proportions (?) the same when, for example, making it smaller or rotating it, since the squishing ect is done using the same control spot and very easily happens when not wanting it to.
Sorry for any mistakes, english isn't my first language lol

Quote from Niels on April 25, 2026, 9:44 amHi there, I am glad you are enjoying AP! Thanks for your kind words.
Keeping proportions: You are talking about when picking up a part of a drawing using the lasso, right? Then you can scale and rotate the picked up part, as you know. When dragging the lower right square (scaling) you simply just hold Shift on your keyboard to lock the aspect. Then you keep proportions.
Keyframe tool: I would love to hear what exactly it is you call a keyframe tool? Please describe it to me, so I can better consider it. Thank you!
Best,
Niels

What I meant by a keyframe tool was the ability to choose two frames in the animation, one for the beginning of movement and the other for the end. On the first chosen frame you'd have a drawing and on the last one you'd have the same drawing, but scaling, rotating or moving it in any way would create a basic movement between the 2 frames. The timing of the movement can be adjusted by graphs, which show how fast or slow the movement starts ect.

Quote from Niels on April 25, 2026, 6:38 pmI see. This is in fact on our todo list for one of the next major updates. We are planning it, so you will be able to move on a layer basis, meaning you can have f.ex. a walk cycle on a layer (or it could be just a still as you are suggesting), and then move/scale/rotate it (aka "keyframe it", aka "tween it") from one position/key to another. Also we will do a curves editor to go with it, to be able to control the path it is traveling along, as well as timing, easing, overshoot, etc. Talking about it makes me excited again and just want to get it done! 😉
