Pencil Configuration
Quote from Rulomileg on March 1, 2026, 9:03 amHi Niels
I would like to know what is the best pencil configuration to achieve the greatest similarity with a graphite pencil? I've used all three default settings and played with the slider variations but I'm not getting the result I want. I'm looking for the closest thing to the line of a wooden graphite pencil.
Thank you!

I find that it is up to personal preference. When I show and discuss the pencil with various people, they have different analyses on what makes it most resemble graphite. Since we don't have an actual brush system (yet), our options are somewhat limited.
This is how it works internally: The texture of the pencil comes from two different seemless rough paper textures, that controls the middle of the strokes and the edges. Also we have 2 curves that controls values on how they are blended and distributed. I have worked A LOT on these 4 variables to get to where we are now. It is certainly not perfect, but I feel this is the best I could do with the system we got now.
The variables available to the user, is the ones you are very familiar with. I feel the pencil and the textures works best at a certain range of sizes (fairly thick, not too small, not too large), but the size is also very project dependent, so I feel it is hard for me to share any concrete advice on this.
Maybe others have a specific setting they like and can share here?

I have found a configuration that I feel is quite similar to the texture of an HB pencil. I share a screenshot here. I would like to know if anyone else thinks this way of settings the pencil is correct.
Greetings!
Thanks Niels

Quote from Niels on March 6, 2026, 7:35 amI like that setting. It gives you a dynamic and quite dark pencil. I would call it 4B 🙂
On the other hand, I also like a pencil setting that is fairly locked in size, I mean, one that can't be too pointy. But that is for rough work - it keeps me thinking rough and forces me to not go into too much detail too early in the process. Just me. 🙂
