I am testing alpha version 2 right now. Nice update!
Here are some additional suggestions:
18) Mirroring the whole canvas would be great to get a fresh look and see the mistakes faster.
19) Resizing the brush with a bigger limit:
the reason for this is that I usually draw my gestures like a silhouette.
I even use the lasso tool and airbrush for it sometimes.
20) A smudge tool would be super amazing!
I plan on animating paintings in your software. I know that you want to keep the program simple and but I don’t really use many tools to work with and they aren’t very fancy either.
I usually just use a hardbrush (which is already included), Airbrush, a smudge brush, the Lasso selection tool and the delete key to delete what’s in the selection.
I recorded a small gif of the painting process and an example of my work:
21) Colorwheel and Color picker
I know I am asking for a lot of things,
but I love the work you put into this masterpiece
and I would love to work in this software as I am streaming without having to swap back and forth between Animationpaper and Photoshop. From what I read in the other threads, I saw that even a circular selection tool is too different from what you were aiming for and I understand that.
I just want keep my hopes up as you may be creating the tool I have always been looking for.
Keep up the great work!April 24, 2020 at 9:02 am #2576
Hi again Kuya – and thanks for your great suggestions.
18 and 21 are already being done. You can see them as greyed out features in the menus and interface.
19 and 20 are noted. We’ll see…
Thanks!April 27, 2020 at 8:56 am #2690
22) merging layers
23) clipping layers
24) lock transparencyApril 27, 2020 at 10:34 am #2692
22) Coming very soon.
23 + 24 – Could you please explain what exactly you mean?April 29, 2020 at 10:34 am #2717
I recorded another gif showing 24) lock transparency first and then the clipping mask:April 29, 2020 at 11:26 am #2718
OK I see, Kuya. Thanks for that gif.
But isn’t that a good example of stuff you want to do in compositing later? I mean, I am not trying to make Animation Paper do everything you know. On the contrary I want it to do “one thing” but do it very well. And that is the animation it self. Using compositing for stuff like masks, blurs, layering effects, etc is best done in your favourite compositing software anyway.
Do you agree? If not, tell me otherwise and tell me why. 🙂 I am listening.April 29, 2020 at 1:09 pm #2720
I mainly use it to do the shading quickly,
I lock the layer to make sure that I don’t paint over the silhouette.
otherwise I would need to shade it in Photoshop, then load it back to animationpaper or another program that can play the frames and see where I made a mistake.

Actually I think this will be taken care of when we get to coloring. I mean, you will be able to fill your areas with color – and those filled areas could work as a mask, if some option is turned on, – so when drawing shading/shadows/light we could have it respect that mask so you can’t draw outside of the colored areas.
That would be great!May 11, 2020 at 9:50 am #2813Gon FreecsParticipant
I agree with Kuya Jaypi’s list of suggestions i think they would all be helping for artists! 😀 Good luck!
