In reply to: Wobbly and Broken Curves on Lines
September 8, 2024 at 9:11 am #7086NielsKeymasterHi Kasey,
I’m very sorry, for some reason this post of yours only popped up for approval just now – even though it is a month old by now. We have had some problems with this forum software. We are looking into alternatives. Sorry again.
Re your question: In AP we have a very special line engine. One of the features is that it has a subtle but effective line stabilization, that is smoothing out little jitters from your pen and makes it easier to draw nice circles and curves. Despite of this smoothing effect it can still make sharp corners etc. What you found is the one negative effect that can arise, exactly when you draw VERY fast with sharp corners. Luckily you would normally not encounter this issue, but you do, so I’d better take a closer look and see if we can improve our engine. Thanks for bringing it up!
Best,

September 8, 2024 at 8:52 am #7082NielsKeymasterOK, I see. Weird it used to work, but doesn’t now. I don’t know how to help you, I’m sorry. It seems to work from here.

September 7, 2024 at 8:00 am #7079NielsKeymasterHi Herb,
What file type are you trying to upload? I don’t remember off the top of my head, but I do believe the forum software only accepts jpg’s or png’s (maybe gifs too). I just tried with a png – and that worked.
If you want to show animation, you can upload your file elsewhere and link to it here. Do you have somewhere to put it? Otherwise, you can send it to me and I will upload it. Youtube links work too by the way (if I’m not mistaken).

September 2, 2024 at 10:29 pm #7072NielsKeymasterHi Riko,
Thanks for all the good questions and comments from you! Keep’em coming! 😉
Currently we don’t have a crop tool per se, but you are able to crop your scene. Go to File > Scene Settings… set your target resolution (canvas size) and select Crop/Center, like this:
This will always crop the edges equally, so you are not able to select some small part in the corner with this method. We do have plans for such a crop tool for a future release though.
A quick way to draw a straight line is a popular request. It’s on our todo-list as well. In the meantime, use a physical ruler on your tablet! 😉 Works well.
Best,

In reply to: Color palette
September 1, 2024 at 11:37 am #7045NielsKeymasterHi Riko, I understand your valid concern.
Paint and color is fully planned and will be part of the very first (free) point update (5.1). I.e the very first thing we will focus on after the 5.0 release. We already have worked on these features, so we are about half way there by now.
The reason some of the development has taken a long time, is because we at some point (2 years ago) had to change programmers a few times, which delayed everything a lot. Now we are back up to full speed again, so no worries. My guesstimate is that we should be able to release 5.1 6 months after 5.0.
Thanks,

August 31, 2024 at 9:29 pm #7043NielsKeymasterThank you so much! You say you were forced to Linux, I hope Animation Paper can ease your transition somehow. 😉 I am actually quite fond of Linux, but I am most happy about supporting both Linux, Mac and Windows.
Thanks again!

August 31, 2024 at 12:32 pm #7037NielsKeymasterSure! In Preferences/Settings you have the option to have the X-Sheet to the left or right.
After copying your drawings, you can easily turn them all original, by having them all selected (using the shift method) and hitting O – which works on all of them at once.
Actually, in my internal development version, we do have a duplicate (as original) feature, so you don’t need to do this “copy – hit O” thing. This will be publicly available in our next release, which is probably in a month or two.
Thanks for appreciating the clean interface. 🙂 It’s something that is very important to me. And this is why I tend to be little hesitant about implementing too many clever ideas (even though they may be easy/quick to do). You mentioned the metronome. I definitely see its use. It would be great for some. But also it would participate in cluttering up the software. Sorry for using your idea as the example, and I mean, that one thing probably wouldn’t clutter much, but if I gave in to too many small features like that, people would tend to be confused and overwhelmed, rather than enjoying the calm and get in focus. For me, getting in the zone when animating, is super important. The less distractions the better. I hope you see what I mean.

August 31, 2024 at 8:13 am #7032NielsKeymasterHi Riko,
You can easily select a series of drawings in the X-Sheet (just click the first thumb, hold Shift and click the last). You can now do normal copy and paste using Ctrl C and Ctrl V (Cmd C and Cmd V on Mac).
You can also cycle such a selection. The menu item is Edit > Cycle Selected Drawings Once.
Reversing the selection, is a feature not implemented yet, but it is planned for the near future. Until then, you will have to copy/paste the drawings one by one to get them in reverse order.
Note, that when you copy drawings like this, the copies are “clones”, meaning that they are linked to the original and will update if the original is changed. This is great for many reasons. And if you need a clone to lose its link, you simply make it “original”, by hitting O (while on the drawing).
I hope this makes sense. I’ll be happy to answer more questions or comments!
Thanks,

August 31, 2024 at 7:57 am #7031NielsKeymasterHi Riko,
Thanks a lot for your suggestion. It is interesting.
I could imagine that such a small metronome app already exists. It could easily sit on top or next to your Animation Paper window and click away.
I know you probably want it build into AP, but would it make a difference really? I am listening. 😉
Thanks,

Jalenr11, following Marc’s comment, does that help you?

August 27, 2024 at 7:23 am #7001NielsKeymasterThat’s very helpful Marc! Thank you!
Katherine, Jalenr11, Momomo and Devin – does this help you? If you could confirm or deny this would be great to make sure.
Thanks,
