In reply to: Two suggestions about X Sheet and Zoom mechanics.
February 8, 2022 at 9:30 pm #4289NielsKeymasterHi Constantino,
Thanks a lot for your suggestions!
Even though many like the “traditional” way of having the X-sheet vertical as you did in the old analogue days, I do appreciate many are used to horizontal timelines from other software and like that best. It would be totally doable to just have the exact same functionality of the AP X-sheet, but as a horizontal layout. At some point we will probably go ahead and have a user setting so you will be able to have it either way.
About zoom: When you zoom holding down Z and dragging, you can do it both left/right and up/down. I believe we have made it to what is considered “standard”. As far as I am aware, all other software, both 2D and 3D use right and/or down to zoom in (magnify) and left/up for zooming out. Also you can zoom using Ctrl on PC and the number keys (Cmd on Mac). Another way is to use ctrl + (plus) or ctrl – (minus) keys (on Mac it is Cmd + and Cmd -). In the latest version you can even use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom.
Could you be more specific on how you want it and maybe which programs you are used to that does it opposite of AP?
Thanks again for your time and nice words!

February 1, 2022 at 10:01 pm #4284NielsKeymasterAnimation Paper is software for your PC or Mac – not something that runs in a browser. So you have to download and install it, if you want it. It really is no problem though.

January 27, 2022 at 6:54 am #4276NielsKeymasterHi Jhune,
Yeah, I know. We are getting there. The next update (Alpha 6) is pretty close, but as I wrote in my latest blog post:
“Our list of features and improvements to do, gets shorter and shorter. We plan to have a couple of alpha releases more. We focus on getting everything finely tuned – and not take in new ideas, that is not already on our todo-list, unless there’s really good reasons to do them of course. 🙂
Our mission from now on, is to reach the point where everything included feels complete, is super stable and production ready. When we reach that point we can publish and start getting some income and those people who may be reluctant to work with alpha and beta versions can safely come on board. I think we all look forward to that point.
Even though we are half way through development of all the coloring features, we have decided to pause it to complete the rest of the list. So first we publish Animation Paper 5.0. Then, following close to immediately after, a free update to 5.1 – that include all the coloring features. This is the good and faster way forward.”
What do you think of this decision?
All the best,

January 25, 2022 at 8:45 pm #4274NielsKeymasterHi Deif! Just wanted to give those who showed interest in the Linux version a heads up. We are working on the Linux version of Animation Paper as we speak. If you would like to test the very first internal version (probably limited and very buggy) the minute we have it ready, then please email me! My email is the one you got your activation key from.
I can’t say how long it will be, but we are definitely getting a lot closer! I need a few testers for the first very rough versions – before we do a real alpha release for Linux. That will probably be Alpha 6 or 7 together with Win and Mac versions.
Let me know! Thanks!

January 18, 2022 at 9:02 pm #4238NielsKeymasterCool. Thanks, Mario. I understand.
By the way: If you hold your cursor above any tool icon or area, you will get a tool tip after a second or so. The tool tip displays the name of the function and the shortcut. It’s somewhat similar to what we had in the old PAP.
Cheers,

January 16, 2022 at 8:29 am #4236NielsKeymasterHi Mario,
Thanks! I was quite happy with those written tutorials for the old PAP as well 😉
The current video tutorials is only meant as rough info on the alpha releases (made before alpha 1). We will of course do proper video tutorials with much more depth for the final release of Animation Paper. We also plan to have some written info.
These days it seems to me that people generally prefer video over text. So if you have all the information included, wouldn’t you prefer it presented as a long series of smaller video tutorials? Let me know.
Thanks,

Your view on bitmap is noted.
I’m not sure I understand the part about “looking forward to manually tweeting without lag”?

January 11, 2022 at 10:16 pm #4228NielsKeymasterFunny, while reading through your post I was thinking maybe the off-pegs feature would be of help in your situation. And then you end with asking about it. 😉
Taking the frame off the pegs might help you – at least in some situations. It works like this:
On PC, hold down Alt and Ctrl (on Mac it’s Alt and Cmd) and then drag to move and rotate your frame to the place you want your subject to be in say, the next frame. Let go of the Alt and Ctrl keys – it will stay off pegs. Now go to the next frame and with back light on, you can now do the next drawing by tracing (or partly tracing) the previous (off-pegs) frame.
You can take as many drawings off the pegs as you want. Normally you will use this feature for doing difficult breakdowns in certain situations. Let’s say you have two key drawings that is far apart – I mean with much space between them. You want to do a breakdown in-between the two keys, but the light table isn’t of much help because the drawings before and after is not close to the spot you’re drawing your breakdown. So you take both key drawings off the pegs (one by one) and move them into the middle where your breakdown is going to be. Now you have good visual feedback from both key drawings and are better able to draw your in-between drawing more accurate.
Once you are finished, you need to pop your off pegs drawings back in place. This is done by again holding down Alt and Ctrl on the off pegs frame – and click the green button.
I hope this explanation is helpful.
And by the way – about your first question. We do plan to have an option for getting rid of the vector data, thus relying on the bitmap only. This will of course make you loose cool abilities like scaling up with no degradation or blurring, but on the other hand, make lassoing a gazillion times no problem. 😉

January 10, 2022 at 9:47 pm #4222NielsKeymasterHi Emily,
Sure. But are you asking about how to actually import and color in Photoshop? Because I can’t help you with that I’m sorry.
Or are you asking about how to export from Animation Paper in order to color in Photoshop? You need to go to the menu File -> Export -> Frames. Then you can choose png as the format and export your whole animation as a sequence of png files.
Let me know if you need me to go into the various options.
Thanks,

January 7, 2022 at 7:28 am #4215NielsKeymasterNo problem, AE!
The erasers are on 1, 2 and 3 on the main keyboard (not numpad).
You can check out the shortcuts for PC here:

January 1, 2022 at 10:52 am #4210NielsKeymasterHi Danielle,
Are you by any chance on a Windows touch screen laptop?
If you are, please try this workaround:
Find the file “qt.conf” (probably here C:\Program Files\Animation Paper\qt.conf). Delete it or rename it (to save it). Then launch Animation Paper again.
This will force Animation Paper to use Windows Ink.
Let me know if this helped?

NielsIn reply to: Where is the Activation Key???
January 1, 2022 at 10:48 am #4208NielsKeymasterNo problem Leonardo! People making typos in their email happens quite often. I get the bounced registration emails. Sometimes I can guess the correct email if it is registered from a gmail or something – like name@gmial.com. But mostly there’s no chance and I just have to hope people realize their error and registers again. Like you did. Thanks!
