August 10, 2021 at 7:02 pm #3853NielsKeymasterThanks Dave.
Today we agreed to prioritise improved import functionality (to respect skipping frame numbers for holds). So hopefully in a matter of days, you will have an update! 😉

August 10, 2021 at 2:25 pm #3849NielsKeymasterHi again Poopie! Good news. We did a portable version. Can I get you to test this and get back to me? It is important for me to know if it works for you – or not. If you have any problems, or if you have none, please let me know!

August 10, 2021 at 9:25 am #3847NielsKeymasterHi Dave,
Thanks for bringing this up. I totally agree with you.
And you are right, the XML export option (we call it Export > X-Sheet… in the menu) is part of our plan to support a seamless collaboration between various software – especially post production like compositing and editing. Internally we have import to Final Cut Pro via xml running super smoothly. So we are on it. What you bring up is my main focus for making Animation Paper part of a good pipeline.
And you are right on the other point too! Absolutely idiotic, that AP doesn’t even import using the same number system for skipping holds! Of course we need to correct that. Thanks a lot for bringing it to my attention. Kind of embarrassing I didn’t even… 🙂
If we quickly implement this addition to our importer, then you could color in, say Photoshop, and then reimport your colored frames into AP and export again in an unbroken sequence (or movie file).
I’ll see if we can make that happen quickly. I’ll let you know.
Best,

August 9, 2021 at 3:59 pm #3843NielsKeymasterI understand. And I’m not sure of the exact drivers needed. But I do know it solved the problem for others to install some kind of WinTab drivers.
I am glad it works better for you now, but it doesn’t sound like the problem is really solved. Do you have pressure at all?

August 9, 2021 at 3:21 pm #3841NielsKeymasterHi Poopie – not a dumb question at all. I believe we need to make a so called “portable” version. I’ll see what we can do and get back to you asap.
Thanks,

August 9, 2021 at 3:08 pm #3840NielsKeymasterHi Jim,
Thanks for signing up so many years ago!
What you show is definitely not supposed to happen. It shows no subpixel precision and no pressure sensitivity. Your pen basically behaves like a mouse for some weird reason.
I am not sure what the problem is, but I know of others that have had succes with installing the WinTab driver. Could you try that please and then run Animation Paper again? I think you should be able to download it here:Â https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38826
Let me know if that changes anything.

August 9, 2021 at 1:46 pm #3837NielsKeymasterHi Selena, we don’t yet have an explanation of what is happening for you. But could you try installing this .msi instead:

It is interesting to see if that makes a difference.
Please let me know!

In reply to: Cant edit imported frames
August 7, 2021 at 10:32 pm #3834NielsKeymasterHi Morfy,
Thanks for asking! I understand the confusion – Reference layers can not be edited. You need to add a new layer on top and draw on that instead.
Imported images are bitmap/raster data. Animation Paper has a special line engine for your drawings, so they are technically not compatible. Try lassoing a part of your drawn lines and scale it up. When you stamp it down you’ll see no degradation or blurring of your lines. 🙂

August 7, 2021 at 9:41 am #3832NielsKeymasterHi Tom, Yeah, I was going to tell you about Clear Drawing 🙂 I’m glad you found it 🙂 That’s the one. I always use it from the shortcut, which is *.
Additionally, there’s the O shortcut – which is turning your clone into an Original (ie. loosing its link). This is if you want to keep your drawing and only want to adjust a small part of it.

August 6, 2021 at 8:13 am #3821NielsKeymasterI’m guessing 🙂 Might it be because you are backlighting imported frames?
Off the top of my head, I think reference layers are not shown with backlight.
Best, Niels

August 5, 2021 at 8:02 am #3819NielsKeymasterYes, I agree.
I’m often reluctant about too much text, because of esthetics. 😉 But you are right, often a simple text sign is much easier to understand. 🙂

August 4, 2021 at 9:57 pm #3817NielsKeymasterThanks a lot for coming back to me Katherine! I see. I think, basically, this is really mostly about what you (and probably many others) expect. Which is super important. My goal is to try to make AP do what people expect, while still having it do what I consider to be good usable functionality.
I do still believe the slide mode as it is now, is very useful. You see, the point is that you first do your timing using very few key drawings with clones between them. Once you have your key drawings positioned as you want them, say in sync with dialogue or music, then you wound’t want to use Add Clones mode to adjust anything, because you would loose your timing later down the timeline. This is why Slide mode is valuable I believe. With Slide mode you simply slide (adjust) any key drawing to hit the right point in time according to your audio or timing. And nothing will be misaligned anywhere else.
But as I said, what you expect is super important. And some kind of swap/move mode is valuable as well. So I do believe we need to have all three modes. Somehow we just need to make it sort of self evident what will happen (what to expect) as you use any of the modes. – As a minimum super obvious what mode you are in.
More thinking is required! 😉
Thanks again!

August 4, 2021 at 10:23 am #3815NielsKeymasterOn second thoughts – I do think slide mode has its value. Maybe we need the 3 modes afterall. But then we have to make it obvious which mode we are in at any given time…
