    Hi Skylie,

Don’t be scared – you can not brake anything.

So, you signed up. Let me ask you these questions to find out where you are in the process: Did you receive the email? Did you click the download button? Did you choose PC or Mac? Did you install it? Did you get, and use, your activation key? Do you have Animation Paper open? Did you watch the video-tutorials?

Let me know, and I will love to help you.

    Cheers,
    Niels

Sorry, that you should encounter this known issue. At least, if I understand you correctly, it seems like the same problem as these people have:

    The same here: https://animationpaper.com/forums/topic/glitched-brush-textures-glitched-squares-when-using-ctrl-z/

I can tell you, that we are aware of it and we are working on a solution. We hope to have it solved with our next release (Alpha 4).

I’m really sorry that I recommended Animation Paper as being much better than PAP – and then you run into this. Bad luck. It works very well for the vast majority. And it will work well for you too – when we find a solution…

    Thanks,
    Niels

Ola! Sorry I have to answer in english. Just to recap in english: You are asking about the old PAP – you are having problems loading or saving anything, even the tutorial walkcycle will not load.

That is strange – it should load and save without any problems. I haven’t touched PAP since we stopped developing it almost 2 decades ago. πŸ™‚ So I have no idea on how to help I’m afraid. All I can say is that it SHOULD work. However, PAP was obviously not made with todays modern computers in mind. So maybe you have stumbled across some basic problem that could have turned up with the latest update of Windows? Another possibility is of course that something could have went wrong when installing?

Sorry I can’t help you better. My best advise is to use Animation Paper (latest alpha version). This is both much better and much easier to learn – everything just works better and is based on modern conventions. And it is free as well. I see no reason AT ALL to use the old antiquated version! πŸ™‚

    Best,
    Niels

Thanks for clarifying Mark! Truly appreciated.

Very good points and good ideas. I totally agree with you. Thank you!

So the only thing for me to check is what is possible hardware-wise with a Wacom (and other brands). Like you say, is it possible to register touch (of up to five fingers) together with the pen tip at the same time?

I have a Cintiq my self and I must admit I had to just disable touch, because it kept triggering on my hand as I rested it while drawing with the pen on the surface. Maybe it is better on newer models? Anyway, I love your ideas! I really hope it will be possible to do! Thanks again!

    Best,
    Niels

Yeah, gestures like this are in our plans. I will use your good suggestions for reference, when we get to it soon.

I was thinking, though, if fanning would be better with just one or two fingers needing to touch. I understand your analogy, but to make it simpler and less straining for your hand maybe it would work better with just one finger dragging up/down to flip back/forth. What do you think?

    Niels

    Thanks for asking Corin!

What we are working on right now is coloring and painting. This is a large area with lots of functionality, so this will be spread over a few alpha releases. But it includes “paint layers” suitable for coloring your animation, including fill tool and color picker, but also drawing/painting in color and cool ways of changing/adjusting colors already used in your animation.

At some time after that we plan to have notching tools, so you are able to just push (move) your lines slightly (without any degradation or blurring) which is excellent for close inbetweening etc.

Coming quite soon are features to store your draw tool settings, so you can easily make a set of favourite pencils, markers and brushes and quickly get to them.

As for a real photoshop-like brush system, we plan to look into that as the first thing for the next major future release.

Did you have any specific hopes/wishes? Ideas are very welcome!

    Best,
    Niels

Thanks a lot Timur! This is something we very well could have in the preferences section. Thanks!

By the way – did you know Animation Paper already have two different drawing cursors you can toggle between? (Cross-hair and dot).

    Hi Melina,

Thanks for letting me know – and sorry for your bad experience.

This is a well known issue AP has with a few older graphics cards on PC. I am not able to do something about it right now, but we will hopefully have found out what exactly is causing this and have done a fix for it – with one of the next alpha releases.

If you have access to another computer, you can try Animation Paper there – if that is at all an option for you of course. In the meantime we will work on fixing it.

    Thanks,
    Niels

    Uh, that thing again. πŸ™

Thanks for letting me know. I almost forgot about it I must admit. πŸ™‚

Actually, it is totally unrelated to the old version, even though it is seemingly the same problem.

Anyway, I seem to remember, when it comes to Animation Paper, that it had something to do with two monitor setups. You having a Cintiq connected to a computer could count as a two monitor setup I guess.

Could I get you to try changing which screen is seen as “primary” in Windows? And also try changing the layout, so they are not positioned above each other but side by side (or vice versa). Does any of that make a difference to the offset cursor problem?

Not that you have to permanently change your setup – it’s just to give us a clue as to what provokes this bug in Animation Paper. We need to get it fixed of course.

Thanks a lot for your help Marco!

    Hi Mike!

Well, it will take a while. Hard to say exactly. We are working on much of the coloring functionality and there’s quite a bit of complicated work in it. So all coloring features will be spread over alpha 4 and 5 if not more. We’ll release alpha 4 as soon as it makes sense.

    Cheers,
    Niels
