    Hi Travis,

I don’t know how much you know about AP – so maybe you know this already – AP has import for exactly this reason. When you import a sequence of frames (png’s, jpg’s or animated gif) AP will automatically put them in a special layer called reference layer. Then you just add a normal layer on top and draw your rotoscoping.

But maybe you are asking about the need for importing a movie file instead? This will come soon. One of the relatively few things left on our todo list is import of mp4 and mov clips.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Thanks,
    Niels

    Hi Swati,

Thanks for taking the time to do a screenshot. I am not sure why this blank page happens and why you don’t get your activation key. Our systems seem to work just fine here. Can I get you to try it again? Maybe even try it again with an alternative browser.

If it still doesn’t work, I can register for you. I need your email and name (optional).

    Thanks,
    Niels

Cutter tool and Lasso tool technically works the same in this regard, so just one or the other is fine.

Yes, no need to test Alpha 6 – best to test the latest – because the problem maybe isn’t present in Alpha 7 anymore. Please let me know though! Thanks very much for your time!

    Hi again Gabriel,

We are trying to reproduce the crash you are reporting. But so far we haven’t been able to. Mostly because it is not possible in AP to stamp a lassoed selection on to an invisible layer. I mean, you will get a “forbidden” cursor icon and it will just not let you do it. So are you sure that’s what happened? Can I ask you to try again and see if you can get it to crash – then let us know exactly the steps to do it?

Thanks a lot for your help!

    Best,
    Niels

    Thanks a lot G.

It does help. I believe you might have a certain kind of older onboard graphics card, which for some reason is problematic in some situations. For some people this results in blocky “garbage” lines when they draw, and for some it can result in no lines at all, like you experience. I have only heard about the no lines problem 2 times before you.

But no worries. We do have a way to fix this for you. But we need a bit more specific technical info. Please send me an email, so I can reply to you with info and instructions. My email address is the one you got your activation key from.

Looking forward to your email. Hopefully we will have you all set in no time. 😉

    Best,
    Niels

    Hi Gabriel,

I’m sorry you had a crash and you lost 2,5 hours of work. Always super irritating and sad.

This is an alpha version and therefore chances are it will have bugs like this. So you are right, you need to remember to save more often. With the next release (Alpha 8) we do have an autosave feature, so that will come in handy. 😉

I am grateful that you took the time to test and reproduce the bug again the day after. Also you precise explanation is great. This makes it sooo much easier for us to find the problem and correct it. Thank you so much!

    Best,
    Niels

    Hi Gabriel!

What kind of computer do you have? Model, graphics card, memory, screen? Do you have a drawing tablet, like a Wacom?

Most important information is what kind of graphics card you have.

Please let me know, and I will hopefully be able to help you.

    Thanks,
    Niels

Thank you Federico! Yes, I am quite stubborn and a very patient guy too 😉 I would like Animation Paper to reach final state soon though and be released for everybody to enjoy (and hopefully buy) 😉 Because, wow, this takes a bit of time! Chipping away and getting there…

    Cheers,
    Niels

    Hi Andreas,

First of all, my system says your message was from weeks ago (feb 2nd) – but for some reason it only just now turned up for my approval. I have no idea why this happened – I’m very sorry if you had to wait this long.

But about your issue: This qt.conf thing is a hack. On some computers (yours apparently), you need to force AP to use Windows Ink for it to work with pressure sensitivity. Normally it just works without doing this.

I have heard that people do generally not like or prefer Windows Ink, because it introduces all kinds of problems. Maybe this is one of them – I don’t know.

Anyway, we aim to make AP work out of the gate with as many systems as possible, so hopefully we will at some point fairly soon be able to drop the qt.conf hack and just make it work normally – and then there’s hope for Lazy Nezumi working on your system like it does for most people already.

Why I am writing like this is because I don’t want to discourage other people reading this from using Lazy Nezumi if they want to. Because normally there’s no problem using it. However I know that I am not offering you, Andreas, much help here. I just don’t know how I can help you with this problem right now, I’m afraid. 🙁

I can tell you, though, that AP does have a clever and subtle stabilising function working already. Some people don’t even recognise it, but it actually makes a great difference for people drawing free hand inside AP (as you do). However, it is not too intrusive, which is one of the great things about it. It feels natural, while still smoothing out unintentional bumps and noise in your strokes. This feature is just always on and working – and it has no user accessible settings.

Long answer, not much use – I’m sorry. 😉

    Best,
    Niels

    Thanks Yann!

We have prepared AP for localisation/translation, but we have not begun the process yet. We need to get all the features done first.

I will be happy to get you on my list for possible translators to contact when the time comes. Thank you very much!

If you email me, then I can get your email address and we can communicate from there. My email is the one you got your activation key from.

About the timeline: What we already have at the bottom we do call the timeline. Vertically on the side we have the x-sheet. The x-sheet is set up like this to mimic traditional analogue x-sheets. We might, however, at some point implement an option to make it horizontal at the bottom as you suggest. It’s our list for the future. 😉

No, don’t feel silly. It’s me who might need to adjust something in AP to make it less confusing. Thanks again!

Hi Diana, thanks for getting in contact!

I think what is confusing (understandably) is that your active layer is always automatically put on top. This is to make sure you are always able to see where and what you are drawing. And often drawings will be quite transparent normally consisting of fairly thin lines with lots of space between them. In your case it’s a completely opaque black, so it covers everything else when it is active.

I would suggest to just lower the opacity of the black layer to say about 50% while you work on your scene. You do that by clicking the small coloured field at the bottom of the layer column.

I hope this helps. Please let me know!

    Best,
    Niels
