In reply to: iPad Pro version?
October 7, 2021 at 7:18 am #3955NielsKeymasterYes! That has been in our plans all the time. We would love to have an iPad version! So we are doing it first thing after we have released the final version for desktop. And it will be quick to do, because we have planned it all along. It will be fully compatible with the desktop versions and have shared code base. Only we need to redesign the interface so it is perfect for touch.
Cheers,
NielsIn reply to: Where is the Activation Key???
October 1, 2021 at 10:48 am #3945NielsKeymasterHi Mark,
Yeah, we are experiencing problems with some server certificate that expired. That’s why you couldn’t register and get your activation key. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience. We are working on getting everything up to speed again as we speak.
If you email me your name and email we can register for you manually here. Then you will receive your activation key on your email, as if you did it yourself. My email is niels at animationpaper.com.
EDIT: Never mind! Since you registered to write on this forum, I could find you in our database. So I will be registering manually on your behalf so you can get your activation key in a few minutes. I hope you enjoy Animation Paper! Thanks!

September 20, 2021 at 11:21 pm #3939NielsKeymasterHi Елена!
Your activation key contains the letter Й? That does not make sense to me – we don’t generate any keys using russian letters. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying?
Why is it not possible for you to use the copy/paste method? What happens when you try?
I will do my best to help you. Please get back to me with answers to the above.
Thanks,

In reply to: Delete History For Drawings/Selections
September 19, 2021 at 11:15 pm #3936NielsKeymasterHi Randy, thanks a lot for this.
You kind of hit the nail on the head here. But the challenge is that we need the line history to be able to recreate (re-render) the complete drawing/frame when for example doing rescaling. I am painfully aware that having this “magical” scaling ability has exactly this drawback you describe. When I designed this, I imagined more rough drawing, maybe based on the light-table, and less copying using the lasso tool. 🙂 But I appreciate why you rely on your technique, which I want to support – as well as other ways.
The immediate super low-tech practical solution is to, as a user, redraw the drawing, which you under normal circumstances doing traditional style animation would do anyway. Once you have refined or “tied down” your drawing (or even just traced it), you can get rid of your old rough sketch with all the accumulated data, solving the problem.
Of course some kind of build in automatic solution would be preferable instead. I agree. But this is theoretically not easy. One pragmatic solution could be to just let the internal vector data go, since we do have the visual outcome – the bitmap data. And you, as the user, could work fine with it from there. As long as you don’t intend to utilise the original vector data, which gives you perfect scaling with no degradation (as mentioned), but also future functionality like nudging the lines and more. So in conclusion, we might decide to make this (relying on historical vector data) optional for the user by having some kind of setting to at least making it a conscious choice between basically two ways of working. Two ways, both with pros and cons.
If you have comments or anything to add, please let me hear your points. This is super important and something we need some kind of usable solution for. Much appreciated.
Thanks,
NielsIn reply to: Distracting circles at the cursor when I start drawing
September 13, 2021 at 6:43 am #3931NielsKeymasterSure. And I can imagine how irritating and distracting it must be. Would it be possible for you to record a small video of this effect? Or do a screenshot for me? Just so I have a clear understanding of how it looks if others get the same problem. If it is not too much trouble, please email it to me. My email is the one sending you your activation key.
Another thing: Are you by any chance on a touch screen laptop? I mean not using a Wacom Cintiq or similar external tablet?
In reply to: Distracting circles at the cursor when I start drawing
September 12, 2021 at 6:36 pm #3929NielsKeymasterOh, sorry Corin! Haven’t experienced that or heard about that before.
It seems to be some system setting, not anything Animation Paper related. From the link you shared I find this:
“On Windows 10 this is very easy to do. Go to Settings > Devices > Pen and turn off Show Visual Effects”
Does that take care of the problem?
Cheers,
NielsIn reply to: Distracting circles at the cursor when I start drawing
September 12, 2021 at 7:56 am #3925NielsKeymasterYes, go to the menu Draw -> Toggle Cursor (Crosshair/Dot). Or use keyboard shortcut , (comma).
This changes the cursor from the default crosshair with circles that shows the size of your pen/brush to just a dot that doesn’t change and is much less distracting.
I hope that feels better 🙂

NielsIn reply to: Error in running AP
September 10, 2021 at 9:08 pm #3923NielsKeymasterThose dependencies ARE actually part of our installer and should have installed automatically together with AP. For some reason it failed for you. I’m glad you got it to work though Amir! Thanks!
In reply to: Drawing outside the canvas
September 10, 2021 at 9:04 pm #3922NielsKeymasterNo setting. But you CAN freely draw outside the canvas. It will not be immediately visible, but your lines are there. If you select All (shortcut A) or lasso the outside area, you will be able to see and pick up your lines/drawing.
In reply to: How to report a bug
September 9, 2021 at 12:52 pm #3918NielsKeymasterHi Sara,
Thanks a lot for this detailed report of yours. I haven’t heard about this kind of behaviour before, but I do suspect it to be related to certain experiences reported by other Windows tablet or touch screen users.
Could you please try the following:
Find the file “qt.conf” (probably here C:\Program Files\Animation Paper\qt.conf). Delete it or rename it (to save it). Then launch Animation Paper again.
This will force Animation Paper to use Windows Ink. Maybe that will make a positive difference?
Please let me know!
Thanks,

September 1, 2021 at 8:10 pm #3910NielsKeymasterHi Alexis,
You guessed it. 😉 You are using the Alpha 4 pre-release. We haven’t yet done the coloring features. But they will be ready soon and they will show up in Alpha 5, 6 and 7 probably. So make sure to update when the time comes. 😉

August 31, 2021 at 9:46 am #3903NielsKeymasterHi again Labo Uqat,
I owe you a reply. Thanks for answering Frederiks questions. We have thought of all sorts of solutions to this problem. None of them are particular simple – at least if they are supposed to give you a real benefit.
So I just wanted to let you know, that we are fully aware of the problems you experience. We need to make this part much easier and smoother, for you, and for many of other schools and studios that will have similar issues. We will come up with a good solution. It is on our todo list.
Only thing is that right now we have to keep on track focusing on our current tasks. I am sorry it is a bit of a hassle for you and the students to make all these installs work, but I hope you’ll manage for now. Before we release the final version of AP we will have a user-friendly system ready for you.
Thanks for your patience,

August 29, 2021 at 7:46 pm #3902NielsKeymasterHi Arpan,
Yes, Animation Paper WILL be available for Linux. But right now, while we are at alpha 4, we are only focusing on PC and Mac. At some point during the late alpha stage or at least beta stage, we will release the Linux version as well. So stay tuned!
Best,
Niels
