    Thanks Fabian,

Can I ask you for a favour? Please download this zip file.ย Unpack the zip. Double-click the file “diagnose.cmd” to run it. This produces an “ap_diag.txtโ€ file that you must email back to me. My email is the one you got your Activation Key from.

This info should enable us to send back to you a config file that fixes your blocky lines problem. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks,
    Niels

OK, no worries. I think this is fixable. Can you tell me what kind of graphics hardware you have?

    Hi Francisco,

If you have previously installed an earlier version of Animation Paper that had an Activation Key accepted, then you should be fine. It is the same key for you for all Alpha and Beta releases.

If this is your first time installing, then you just need to register to get your Activation Key. Just click the link in the small window coming up when you launch Animation Paper.

Let me know if this helped you or not?

    Best,
    Niels

I think this might be because you had an older Animation Paper installed already. It’s normally not necessary to uninstall first, but maybe it is this time – especially if your original AP was earlier releases.

So please try uninstalling all versions, reboot, and then install Alpha 5 again. Let me know if that makes it work?

    Thanks,
    Niels

I have just this minute moved this version (Alpha5) to the public download page. This includes the 32bit variant.

    Enjoy!

    Hi guys!

I think I have good news! We believe we have fixed the messy blocky lines issue! Can I ask you to test this at your end?

    Download and install this: https://animationpaper.com/files/Alpha5/AnimationPaper_x64.exe

Hopefully it just works for you now. Please let me know if the lines look fine now. Also if things run at a good speed, so drawing doesn’t feel slow or anything.

Thank you very much! I really hope we finally fixed this annoying problem for those of you who couldn’t ever get a smooth and nice looking line. Fingers crossed! Please let me know asap! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Best,
    Niels

    No problem at all, Matilda!

You just download Animation Paper again, install and register again. You will get a new activation key to use instead. That’s perfectly fine.

Let me know if you have further questions!

    Best,
    Niels

Came to think of this feature – if that is what you meant: If you want to onionskin frames further away from your current frame, you can use the “Only Backlight Key Frames” option. Mark the frames you want to show in your onionskin as Key (by hitting K on each of them). Then you only see the Key frames even though they can be far apart.

    Cheers,
    Niels

    Oh! OK ๐Ÿ™‚

You can have up to 4 frames before and 4 frames after. See the columns in the screenshot above. You can drag those black parts up or down to increase or decrease the visibility of each of the backlit frames. If a column is all the way to the bottom, like +4/-4 in the above example, it will be turned off.

    Does that answer your question?

    Niels

    Hi Andy! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Each layer is color-coded, so it is easy to separate them from each other visually. So when you draw on a certain layer the line will automatically be in that color.

You change the layer-color at the little “gizmo” at the top of the layer-column in the X-Sheet. You can choose between black, blue, green and red. Soon we will enable the little color-wheel too, so you can have custom colors.

I hope this makes sense to you!

    Best,
    Niels

    Hi Alain,

The default setting is this (see image). It shows 3 frames before and 3 after. Shift Space toggles the backlight (onionskin) on/off.

The functionality is very straight forward – so I’m thinking there’s something else going on. Are you trying to onionskin imported frames? They are reference frames and will not show up on the backlight. Once you draw something within AP, everything should work as expected.

Please let me know if that’s indeed what is happening (or not).

    Thanks,
    Niels
