Thanks Racky and Javier! We’ll look into it…

    Hi Dotti,

Sorry for my slow answer. I have been away on vacation for a few days.

About your problem: Sounds weird. It is of course not supposed to work like that. Others have had (not the same, but other) comparable pen troubles. Did you try installing the latest WinTab drivers? That might solve it. Please let me know here if it does (or not).

    Thanks,
    Niels

    Hi Ilan,

Sorry for my slow answer! I have been away for a short vacation 🙂

Your two points are really good and very interesting. Definitely worth contemplating. Can I get back to you for an even more detailed explanation of your rolling drawings suggestion at some point?

I’ll make sure to make the key frame icon more clear. Thanks a lot!

    All the best,
    Niels

You are right. I get the same here. Not on the Marker – only on the Pencil. It does it no matter the opacity setting. It is all about the size being a the very minimum, i.e. 0.5px – 0.7px or so.

As you know the pencil has paper texture on it to make it a bit rough. The roughness seems to become more evident at this very small size. It is kind of on purpose, but maybe it is too much.

Thanks for your observation! I’ll see if we can tweak it just a tad. 🙂

Sorry for the wait Julien. Our issues have been solved so we are back on track. But I’m reluctant to promise anything solid. I’m guessing in a week or so. Could be 2 though.

    Hi Kirt,

You are correct, layers always start at frame 1.

You need to have a layer with the first drawing blank and 39 clones after it. Then you can have your cycle from 40 to 55. Shift select your cycle (drawing 40-55) and copy/paste it below as many times as you need it. These copies are clones too, so cycling doesn’t take up memory and all drawings are properly linked.

I do appreciate that in your case you could have saved a step or two if this was done in another way. But I think designing the software how I did keeps the simplicity greater in general.

(I can’t run away from remembering your point though. 😉 Maybe I’ll do something about it at some point.)

OK, mach.dll or something like that. Thanks.

But do I understand you correctly that Animation Paper runs now anyway?

Hi Francisco – thanks for your info!

I’m interested in the dll error. Could you tell me which dll it was about? I’m guessing “openssl” – could you confirm that to me please?

No problem at all Marcin! It is best if people could just launch it and start working without ever reading anything or watching any tutorials. That might not be totally realistic, but as a developer you can strive for it, right? So, good feedback from you definitely. Thanks a lot!

I know people are used to working with traditional bitmap software and therefore expect certain things. But I wanted to escape that and show things could work better. There’s a flipside though. I truly believe I’m on the right path, I just need to think even harder. 😉

    Anyway, thanks again! 🙂

Yeah, my apologies, Julien. We are delayed, due to some unforeseen issues we are experiencing. We will of course overcome them (almost there) so we can get alpha 3 done and released. My guess is 1 to 2 weeks from now. Sorry.

Smoothing is actually standard in Animation Paper too. 🙂 We have no settings for it – because it just works quite cleverly and subtly. You would definitely notice it if it wasn’t there. At some point we might present a couple of parameters for the user to be able to adjust it.

The issue with the lasso is that the data in one drawing will build up exponentially. So after 15 – 20 copies on top of it self, number of lines have doubled for every copy, and then memory and CPU usage explodes. We put in a warning with some recommendations. It pops up when picking up takes more than 2 seconds. Hopefully you got that too?

It’s a complex problem. Not just a matter of collapsing something. 🙂 Animation Paper wasn’t designed with extensive lassoing in mind. The positive sides of how this works are the ability to draw and lasso beyond the frame borders, unlimited resolution, so when scaling/rotating you get no degradation or blurring of your lines. Also coloring will take great advantage of this line engine of ours. As well as the ability to work in lower resolution for speed and exporting in higher resolution for quality.
