Pre-release Announcement!

NielsUncategorized82 Comments

Development is continuing to progress smoothly. Soon we will be ready with our very first early-access alpha version! So, today I can finally announce the date for our pre-release!

Drum roll... and the date is...

TOMORROW!!

Yes! All who signed up for the alpha/beta, will be able to download Animation Paper for PC or Mac - and get seriously animating this very weekend!

So keep an eye on your inbox. I will be mailing you the download link.

Haven't signed up yet? Still time, but hurry up! Once the email goes out it is too late to get this first Alpha. (Calm down ๐Ÿ™‚ Don't hurry so much you make typos in your email address! I see this happen every day.)

Missed this post within time? You are still very welcome to sign up anyway, then you will be on the list for Alpha 2. We will do frequent alpha updates as we get more features ready and bugs fixed.

I'm so excited to finally be able to let you have it! 24 more hours - I can't wait!

Cheers,
Niels

Hooray! My birthday is Sunday and I was a little bummed about having to spend it stuck inside because of COVID. Now I know exactly how I’ll spend the day. Best early birthday present ever! Thank you for all of the work that you’ve put into this Niels!

I think it sends according to when people signed up. But it seems many emails are quite slow to find their way. 100% of them looks to be sent from my point of view. But, granted, it was a lot, so somewhere there is a server hard at work. ๐Ÿ™‚ The suspense is killing me too! ๐Ÿ™‚

STILL WAITING FOR THE EMAIL? CHEAT HERE!

OK! It is now 8 hours since I hit the button and sent out the email. For some reason many of you are yet to receive it. This was my first mass email, I thought I had it all figured out, but I obviously need to do some changes before my next mail ๐Ÿ™‚

I am cheating a bit now, but I don’t think you should be waiting any more. Here’s the email online, with link to the download: [CENSORED!:)]

    Enjoy!

Hi, Niels! I can’t believe AP is here! Today it’s exactly a year since I registered in this site, but I knew PAP some years before that.

I have been waiting for the email but I didn’t receive it yet, so I follow your “cheat” way, and I’m ready for the welcome tutorials.

This time I registered with my gmail to obtain the Activation Key, but I had to register with an hotmail account last time, because there was an issue that other users have reported in this forum. I hope it’s not a problem, I’m the same user, and I think its possible to update my account.

Anyway, thanks a lot for let us to try this piece of software. Regards!

When I saw the email for this I was legit shocked that there’s an actual alpha I could use, can’t wait to try it out! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been following this since 2014, and during that time I mostly worked on my computer. Now I have an iPad so I can work wherever. The sad part though is that there are no really REALLY good animation programs like this one has the potential to be. So when you have the time, EVEN if you just port the alpha as is, for the time being, you should definitely think about expanding the market to the iPad (and maybe android tablets if you’re feeling extra generous, lol). There are so many animators that wished there were a better, more organized app, I’m sure you’ll be successful.

Until then, though, here’s to the alpha ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks. We are actually going to do an iPad and Android version as soon as we finish the desktop version. We have been planning for this all the way. The core code will be shared between the versions, only the interface has to be redesigned for touch of course. Your project files will be fully compatible, so you can switch between desktop and iPad with ease.

Excellent work , so intuitive and professionally laid out, IT’S awesome!!! I knew it was going to be worth the wait. Can’t wait to see the final product, you have succeeded in a worthy successor to the original PAP friend ๐Ÿ™‚

Very sorry Bob. Time has gone by since then. We are forced to follow what the framework of QT is supporting. If they change what OS they support, we must too.

I am not promising anything, but I will see if there is something we can do to help out. I’ll get back to you…

    Hi, Niels,

I’m that guy from BraSil (with an S), remember me?
We traded some e-mails in the past, and I posted some messages in the blog in 2016.
It’s nice to see you are back to business!
I just downloaded and installed the pre-release version, but unfortunately my N-Trig pen (that I use on my good old Sony Vaio Flip 15) doesn`t work properly.
It only work while I draw pressing the pen button (as a normal mouse, with no pressure sensitivity).
Perhaps I need to install some wintab drivers (like I needed back then, when using older versions of Photoshop), but I would like to know, beforehand, if you already had some feed-back from other users about that issue, because I remember that the last time I used wintab drivers I had a lot of headaches…

    1. Niels Krogh Mortensen

      Thanks a lot! ๐Ÿ™‚

It is too early to know if there are others who experience the same problem. So far it doesn’t seem like it.

I do know that we have had some problems with Windows Ink. Could you try checking if it is on or not? And try toggling it to see if it helps?

  7. melody munson

hey did I sign up too late to get the download? I signed up and I got the confirmation email saying I’d be able to get it but I haven’t yet. I checked my spam and everything but I haven’t gotten it yet, do I just need to be patient or did I get left off the list for being too late?

    Hi Niels,
I am having trouble opening the program. can you tell me how to do it please
I already installed the program, requested the Key and I already received it by mail,
but when I enter the key in the box nothing happens and the program doesn’t open.
When I try to load the program again it asks me for the password that I already entered
    please help!

    1. Niels Krogh Mortensen

Hi G, another user had the same experience. But it ended up just working when he tried again. Must had been a temporary thing with his internet connection.

I checked and our license server is running just fine. Could you try again please?

  9. Bob Thompson

I’m on OSX El Capitan Ver 10.11.6 although you said the system requirements would work on Animation Paper they don’t you replied that the OT specks had changed and there is nothing you can do.
Should I just give up on getting Animation paper?
If so I wish I had not wasted so much hope and anticipation waiting for it. What a total Let down!
All of us can’t afford a new computer to run the latest Apple OS.
Have you priced a new Apple Laptop lately, well let me tell you as an Old man 72 YO on a limited budget it’s out of the question.
I know I’m old and I should get out of the way, but I ain’t dead yet!

    1. Niels Krogh Mortensen

Hi Bob, as I said earlier, I am truly sorry. I know this is disappointing to you and others in your situation. If your hardware supports it, you will be able to update your OS to 10.13, which will make Animation Paper run. But I am aware that this is not possible with every older computer. Some is left behind. Not fun. Tried it my self many times.

I know and appreciate so many people waited for Animation Paper. But reality is that there will always be a cut off somewhere. The longer back we support old OS versions, the less efficient and optimized we can make Animation Paper for all those with updated systems. And that group is after all the vast majority.

We have very good reasons for having this exact cutoff. The decision has been made. Again, I am sorry, but we can’t change it.

Hi Niels! I didnยดt have had the chance to test animation paper yet but Iยดve seen the explanation videos of how it works and Iยดm really impressed so far. While watching each episode I was surprised to see how uncluttered it looks and how it seems to be really designed to focus on the important aspects of creating animation! I dunno if I am on the list *haha* but I hope I can try it out asap as I would like to have a tool with which I can learn to animate better and faster. Thanks to you and your team for creating this interesting software.

    Cheers!
    Goran

  11. Julia Vieira

Hi Niels. I just now heard about this amazing software and I recently sign in as a new member. I tried to download the program, but I have an old Macbook pro, and the only downloadable option I could find was for Windows. Do you have an estimate of when you’ll add the option for MAC? I also saw there was an alpha version you release for a few people, am I on the list for the next version? Thank you so much,

    Julia Vieira

    1. Niels Krogh Mortensen

Hi Julia, I understand the confusion. There’s Plastic Animation Paper (the super old version – Windows only) and then there’s Animation Paper, which is the new up to date version currently being developed (in alpha).

So you want Animation Paper alpha version. You just need to sign up here https://animationpaper.com/#HowMuch

You’ll get an email with the download link right away. After you install you need to register to receive your free activation key. Also right away.

      Welcome and happy animating! ๐Ÿ™‚
