KeymasterFunny, while reading through your post I was thinking maybe the off-pegs feature would be of help in your situation. And then you end with asking about it. π
Taking the frame off the pegs might help you – at least in some situations. It works like this:
On PC, hold down Alt and Ctrl (on Mac it’s Alt and Cmd) and then drag to move and rotate your frame to the place you want your subject to be in say, the next frame. Let go of the Alt and Ctrl keys – it will stay off pegs. Now go to the next frame and with back light on, you can now do the next drawing by tracing (or partly tracing) the previous (off-pegs) frame.
You can take as many drawings off the pegs as you want. Normally you will use this feature for doing difficult breakdowns in certain situations. Let’s say you have two key drawings that is far apart – I mean with much space between them. You want to do a breakdown in-between the two keys, but the light table isn’t of much help because the drawings before and after is not close to the spot you’re drawing your breakdown. So you take both key drawings off the pegs (one by one) and move them into the middle where your breakdown is going to be. Now you have good visual feedback from both key drawings and are better able to draw your in-between drawing more accurate.
Once you are finished, you need to pop your off pegs drawings back in place. This is done by again holding down Alt and Ctrl on the off pegs frame – and click the green button.
I hope this explanation is helpful.
And by the way – about your first question. We do plan to have an option for getting rid of the vector data, thus relying on the bitmap only. This will of course make you loose cool abilities like scaling up with no degradation or blurring, but on the other hand, make lassoing a gazillion times no problem. π
Cheers,

KeymasterHi Emily,
Sure. But are you asking about how to actually import and color in Photoshop? Because I can’t help you with that I’m sorry.
Or are you asking about how to export from Animation Paper in order to color in Photoshop? You need to go to the menu File -> Export -> Frames. Then you can choose png as the format and export your whole animation as a sequence of png files.
Let me know if you need me to go into the various options.
Thanks,

KeymasterNo problem, AE!
The erasers are on 1, 2 and 3 on the main keyboard (not numpad).
You can check out the shortcuts for PC here:

Thanks for your comment!

KeymasterHi Danielle,
Are you by any chance on a Windows touch screen laptop?
If you are, please try this workaround:
Find the file βqt.confβ (probably here C:\Program Files\Animation Paper\qt.conf). Delete it or rename it (to save it). Then launch Animation Paper again.
This will force Animation Paper to use Windows Ink.
Let me know if this helped?

KeymasterNo problem Leonardo! People making typos in their email happens quite often. I get the bounced registration emails. Sometimes I can guess the correct email if it is registered from a gmail or something – like name@gmial.com. But mostly there’s no chance and I just have to hope people realize their error and registers again. Like you did. Thanks!

KeymasterThanks a lot Jerkdouglas! Your animations are awesome.
And thanks very much for your suggestions. Let me comment on each…
1) Yeah, I know, even though many people love the vertical x-sheet (must be the old guys, like me;)), quite a few don’t. You might be right – maybe it is just a matter of doing the exact same thing, but horizontal. Noted.
2) Actually we do have a built in automatic stabiliser already working on all strokes. It is much “smarter” and more subtle compared to those simple smoothing algorithms. However, Β people are used to the smoothing, so even though it wasn’t our plan from the beginning to include this kind of smoothing, we might add it. Others have requested this too.
3) Skewing is on our todo-list. As well as other ways of transforming, like “squash and stretch” that will keep a volume, while pulling or pushing it in any direction.
4) Remapping keys is on our todo as well.
You mentioned Animation Paper being a raster program. And it is. At least our ambition is for it to behave and feel like raster. But we do have a special line engine underneath, which means we are (and will be even more so) able to do kind of cool things. We will do line-nudging, so for close in-betweens you can simply push your lines slightly and still keep them crisp mind you. But, already, take a look what happens when you pick up a smaller part of your drawing using the lasso – then scale it up, or even way up – and stamp it down again. There’s no degradation or blurring or anything. It feels almost magic! (At least I think so) π
Anyway, thanks for your sweet words! Keep beating your friends over their heads! π
Thanks,

KeymasterYes. It’s default setting is “Faint Cursor”. Turn that option off, to have a much clearer drawing cursor. It’s in the Draw menu.

KeymasterOK, I understand. Thanks for explaining.
You probably already given me your hardware specs elsewhere (sorry I can’t remember) – but would you mind giving me them again? OS, graphics card, memory, etc?

KeymasterBy the way – are you using Ctrl-Alt on the left side or right side of your keyboard? It sounds silly, but it could actually make a difference.

KeymasterOK, thanks.
I just have to ask to rule it out – you do check the “Include Audio” option right? Of course you did, sorry.
Would you mind emailing me your ap file, containing the audio? My email is the one you got your activation key from.
Thanks,

KeymasterHi and thanks for your comment.
I am not sure I understand. When you say “slower”, do you mean it starts lagging or something like that? Or is it just the fact that when drawing a certain distance across your screen at a certain speed, it of course will cover different distances on your paper depending on how much you are zoomed in on the paper.
But I’d better just let you explain it. What do you mean? π
