KeymasterHi Phoenix,
Yes, in the current alpha version (3) you are only able to export your animation as a sequence of png files (split into layers if you want). This way you have the option to composite your layers, do camera moves, effects like blur, etc in your favourite compositing software – before exporting your final movie file.
We will of course support exporting directly as movie files (such as MP4 and Quicktime ProRes with alpha) – but this is coming in one of the next alpha releases.
For now, you can export as png’s and convert them to mp4 (or other moviefile) elsewhere. Lot’s of software can do this, including free ones. An alternative solution is to do a screenrecording. With a little patience, the easier exporting options are coming soon! π

KeymasterHi Azazel!
Sure! Animation Paper has build-in reference layers! This is exactly what is needed for rotoscoping.
You make sure to have your video material saved out as a framestack of png images (soon Animation Paper will accept video files as well, but for now you’ll need a sequence of png’s).
When you import your reference (rotoscope) material into Animation Paper (select 1st png and shift-select last png to have all of them imported), it automatically adds a reference layer with your video material. You can then adjust the opacity of your ref-layer to your liking – and add normal layers on top for your rotoscope drawings.
Let me know if you have further questions!

NielsNiels
KeymasterHi Kristian π
Sure, that is already on our todo-list and will come in one of the next alpha releases.

KeymasterEverything regarding coloring is what we are working on right now. Features planned to go into the menus are shown but disabled (greyed out). New Paint Layer will be ready and enabled in the next release (Alpha 4).

KeymasterHello π
I would go for a Wacom – even though other brands a good too. As long as it has pressure sensitivity you should be good.
The Wacoms are generally more expensive, but also much better in my experience. Many pro animators opt for a Wacom Cintiq (it has a build in screen), which is the VERY expensive solution. This is NOT needed in your case I would imagine. Any smaller Wacom would do just fine I would say. Preferably an A5 (medium) size.
Just my thoughts. Maybe others have better recommendations?

KeymasterHi Michael – right now, no. You will have to change the audio and reimport it to create a silent space in the beginning.
But we will add functionality in Animation Paper soon, so you can just drag the waveform to adjust the starting point of the audio.
Thanks for mentioning this!

KeymasterBy the way, you can use “.” (full stop) to toggle between drawing/erasing. I know it is probably yet another key for you to get used to, but maybe it helps after all?

KeymasterI totally get it. I would say I am in the same category as you are. Only I have listened to many people who like adjusting their pencil/brush all the time. So ideally it should cater to both personalities.
Anyway, thanks a lot. Your point is definitely taken. I will find a solution.

KeymasterYeah, I like the idea. Others have mentioned this (holding e) to me as well.
The only thing is that we already have hold E and hold D functionality working. Holding E gives you the Eraser settings and holding D – the Draw Settings. When you let go, the box goes away.
Do you like this way of getting to the settings easily and quickly? Maybe we could do both somehow? I mean, if you hold and draw/erase right away it works as you say – but if you wait for the settings to come up without putting the pen to the surface it goes to settings mode? Of course this could turn out to be too much and too complicated to easily figure out and work with. But maybe it would be worth testing.
What do you think Kristian? I would love to hear if you could elaborate further? Maybe you prefer to have the settings come up in a completely other way? Please let me pick your brain! π

KeymasterHej Kristian! Hyggeligt at “se” dig here! Fedt du tester! Tusind tak! π
I’ll answer in english for others to understand…
Yes, we have a known issue when Animation Paper runs on Surface (possibly other touch screen laptops as well). We need a proper fix, but for now, you should be able to make it work by doing this: Find the file βqt.confβ (probably here C:\Program Files\Animation Paper\qt.conf). Delete it or rename it (to save it). Then launch Animation Paper again.
This will force Animation Paper to use Windows Ink and should give you pressure sensitivity etc.
Best wishes,

November 27, 2020 at 7:41 pm #3348Niels
KeymasterHi Karl, thanks very much for reporting this. When I try to recreate it here, I can’t seem to make it happen. Maybe I am missing a step or something? Would it be possible for you to write an even more detailed step by step description on how to get the bug to happen? And do you start with a new scene or with an already existing animation loaded?
If we could recreate the bug here, we have the best chances to fix it. Your help is much appreciated!

Keymaster(I got your email earlier and replied this:)
It should be fine. Maybe it was a connection glitch. Could you please try it again and let me know how it goes?

KeymasterHi Aletta – thank you very much for your nice words and for showing this beautiful creation. It is very clear that you know dancing from within. Keep dancing this way! Well done!
About your questions:
As it is right now, you can switch between to types of cursors. Just hit “,” (comma) on your keyboard. You might find one more visible than the other. For later releases we plan to make the cursor more customisable, so you can choose between more visual possibilities and also give it more or less opacity.
To propagate a sequence, you can go to File > Export > Frames in the menus. You will be able to export as a sequence of PNG images (there’s all sorts of options). Later (soon) we will add export of movie clips in MP4 and Quicktime ProRes formats.
Cheers,
Niels
