In reply to: Starting a new layer mid X-sheet

KeymasterYou are right – they way to do it is to just have a blank with a number of clones, until the action starts further down. We have opted to do it like this to keep things simple and consistant.
I do hear you though. You have a point and it’s definitely a thing to consider. We need to think it through regarding how things would work when merging layers, jumping between layers, lighttable issues, playback, etc, etc. It’s always not as simple as it seems – at least if you want to keep everything clear and simple on the surface. 🙂
Anyway, thanks a lot for mentioning it. It’s noted!

KeymasterHi Kim – thanks!
Actually I have had my own ideas on exactly that since the first Animation Paper ideas popped up. I mean the ability to keep a palette and change colors after they have been used in frames, so you can do things like adjusting colors instantly and globally after a scene have been fully painted, etc. I later found out Toonz have somewhat similar features as what I dreamed of 🙂 Anyway, this is planned and will be part of the coming alpha releases.
Cheers,

KeymasterHi Eli!
Did you succeed in submitting your activation key? If that’s out of the way, you can just go ahead and start drawing…
You don’t really need to setup anything. You draw, you add frames (hit the plus-icon or use the hotkey Ctrl ArrowDown if you are on PC or Cmd ArrowDown if you are on Mac). You draw some more.
You flip through your drawings using your arrow keys.
After you have done a rough animation quickly sketched out (default done in blue pencil) – then you add a new layer (hit N on your keyboard) – and you can start cleaning it up in black.
Hit Space to play your animation.
That’s the very short version. 🙂 Did that help at all? Otherwise let me know if you have specific problems or questions.
Also make sure to check out our tutorials – they will show you most of what you need to know to get started: https://youtu.be/IO7sxaZonhA
Good luck!
Cheers,

KeymasterI agree Shahd! That would be a useful feature. And actually, this is one of the only things that the old PAP, but not the new AP, could do.
But I’m sure we’ll find a good way (user experience wise) to implement it into AP. It’s on our list.
Thanks for your comment!

KeymasterThanks for this Jeff. Sure I know about LN. And others have reported the same thing – I would expect it to be the same for the latest versions as well. Thanks for your video – very helpful! We have it on our list – so we will look into it when we get to it. 🙂
Were you aware that AP already have a quite clever stabiliser built in? This function hasn’t got any settings (at least for now) and works all the time in a very subtle way, but it actually makes a huge difference – without most people even noticing it. I would expect that people would notice if it wasn’t there though. 😉

KeymasterNo problem, Jeff – thanks!
So does that mean, that everything works as expected on your system? (I just want to make sure)

KeymasterGreat! So, does that mean everything works? I suspect the eraser end of your pen is not working? (if you have a physical eraser on your pen?)

KeymasterThanks Jeff! And thanks for the recording.
Did you try to “qt.conf” thing? (- mentioned in my email). I hope that will fix the pressure. Please let me know.
It’s not that I consider these things a fix for you – this is to locate the problems so we can do a proper fix for the next release.
Thanks a lot!

KeymasterHi Jeff – thanks for reporting this.
I’m happy you are able to use this alpha with your Wacom, but of course we need to get AP to work with your preferred setup. We’ll have a look and see if we can get a fix for one of the next alpha releases.
Thanks!

KeymasterHi Xander, Animation Paper will slowly and gradually develop into the full version, as we implement the last remaining features and fix any bugs and problems. When we can call it finished is hard to say. In fact it will never truly be finished, because after the “final” release, we will of course continue to improve it and release future upgraded versions.
But if you really want some ballpark date, my guess is late this year/early next year. Let’s see how it goes. 🙂

KeymasterHi Todd, no you didn’t miss it. Still working on it. We had a few issues that took a lot of extra time. And we had lockdown and summer vacation. But we are almost there now!

KeymasterThanks for letting me know – good you found out yourself while I’m being slow 😉
Yes, I agree it would be good if this behaviour could be optional. We will consider the implications.
Cheers,
