Thanks a lot for this Bert. Yes,Β the cursor is supposed to go back to the tool you had before, so there must be an issue here. What OS are you on?

And by the way! When you scale up stuff in Animation Paper, it doesn’t degrade or gets blurry. It will rerender all your drawings at full crisp resolution. When you experiment with it, you will see it is sort of magical! πŸ˜‰ You can try it with the lasso as well. Pick up something, and scale it up, then stamp it down and you’ll see. Maybe you already did that. πŸ˜‰

    Thanks a lot, Bert!

It depends on what you mean. You can take your entire scene and resize it, so if you are working in 2K, you can go to 4K or vise versa. To or from any odd resolution you want. You can choose to crop or resize proportionally, etc. This is all done by going to File -> Scene Settings…

We are also working on doing floating selection (lasso) transformations on multiple or all drawings in a layer. Maybe that is what you are seeking. This is planned to be implemented in one of the next releases.

As a workaround for now, if you want to say, scale an animation up, but keep it in the same scene resolution (I mean, your drawings will fill the frame more), you can do it like this: Using “Scene Settings” I talked about above, scale your animation up, by choosing a custom resolution that fits your wanted scale (like 150% or what ever). When done, then you can go back to Scene Settings and choose your original resolution, and select the option “crop/center” to crop off the excess room at the edges. I hope this helps and makes sense!

Let me know how it goes!

    Best,
    Niels

    Hi Ruth,

    Thanks for asking about it.

You are right, you can not resize, draw or use the lasso tool on any reference. We are actually going to do a resizing mechanism, so in one of the next alpha releases you will be able to do exactly that.

For now, I suggest you fix your reference image elsewhere (photoshop or other image software you might have). So make it fill the HD frame as you want it, then save it as png and import it again into Animation Paper.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Niels

    Hi Simon,

Yeah, these are not implemented yet. I chose to show them greyed out in the menu, to show what is coming. Sorry, I know it is kind of confusing – I think I will drop them in the menu (next alpha release), until they are actually there. πŸ˜‰

    Thanks,
    Niels

    Hi Alain,

Not in the current version. I mean, AP runs very well on the M1 – but it is not specifically written for it.

We will support M1 directly very soon though. Probably in a few months.

    Niels

Yeah, that looks like a good jaw drop. πŸ˜‰ Is that how you felt when you opened AP for the first time? Hehe πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Maybe you have the animated version to show?

    Hi Joanna,

Thanks a lot for your nice words and for teaching using Animation Paper! That’s great. Here’s my answers…

    1) Your point is noted. I do follow you. My hesitation is that if I add just a few more tracks, people will ask why the limit? The challenge is to keep AP simple – yet have all the features important to the pro animator. But the more tracks, the more we need other audio functionality as well. But maybe it can be done, keeping everything clean and simple. So I will definitely think more about it! Thank you for letting me know about what you need as a teacher. Appreciated.

    2) Yes, as you found out – you can name the layers. πŸ˜‰

    3) Yes, you can use “annotations” to number your frames (as well as write notes to plan your animation, write phonemes or draw mouth shapes or timing charts). Just remember to link your drawings column to the annotations column, so you keep your numbers locked to your drawings.

    4) Yes! We have been planning the iPad version all along. It will be done fairly shortly after the final release of the desktop version.

    Cheers,
    Niels

OK, thanks for clarifying this Juaco! We will look deeper into this matter – and hopefully have it fixed for next release.

Hi again Blair. We have confirmed this as a problem on our side. Thanks for giving us the heads up! We plan to have it fixed for next release.

    Thanks again,

    Hi Pharan,

Thank you so much for this. I totally follow.

I agree that your option 3 seems to be the way to go. I like that idea very much. Thank you!

I’ll put it on our todo-list to be done soon.

In the meantime, you could use H (Hand) as the shortcut for dragging the canvas. This works all over the view. Though I do understand the muscle memory thing using the Space bar. πŸ™‚ So we’ll get it updated!

    Thanks,
    Niels

Wow – that’s a weird thing! Thanks for reporting this, Juaco.

I need a bit more info. What OS are you using? (Windows, Mac or Linux? Which version?) What kind of tablet? (brand, model?)

Does this happen constantly every time you launch Animation Paper?

Turning 180 – so your display image is up side down?

Please get back to me with more info – this makes it easier for us to fix the problem.

    Thanks,
    Niels
